MATAMA BEACH / Bungotakada City

Matama Beach in Bungotakada City is a beach renowned for its beautiful sunsets, recognised as having one of the ‘100 best sunsets in Japan’. The magnificence of the wavy sand patterns that appear only at low tide and the light gradient of the setting sun sinking into the sea is an image so beautiful that photos and videos cannot do it justice. The way the sun slowly blends into the shallow mudflats also makes it a favoured spot for photography, attracting many camera enthusiasts with their tripods.

As summer gives way to autumn, the weather remains relatively stable, and on a clear evening, you may be lucky enough to see the water surface reflecting the sky like a mirror. The waterfront is also well maintained and there are plenty of terraces and café spaces offering beautiful views. We recommend a relaxed trip to the Kunisaki Peninsula at dusk.
