うみたま体験パーク「つくみイルカ島」 （津久見市）
津久見市の「つくみイルカ島」は、もともと市が運営する釣り堀だった入り江を再活用して生まれた、少しユニークなイルカとのふれあい施設です。開業は2011年。大分市にある水族館「うみたまご」の運営のもと、自然の海を舞台にイルカたちをより身近に感じることができます。
2025年4月現在、12頭のバンドウイルカが暮らしており、そのなかには、つくみイルカ島で生まれたイルカや漁業の網にに引っかかったところを保護したイルカもいます。イルカたちはパフォーマンスのトレーニングを受けていますが、それも運動や刺激となることで生活の質（QOL）向上を目的として取り入れられているそうです。社会性があり、人懐っこい性格で、好奇心旺盛なイルカたち。海上デッキのすぐ近くからできる餌やり体験や、イルカと一緒に泳げる体験プログラムなど、直接コミュニケーションをとれる機会もあります。

‘TSUKUMI DOLPHIN ISLAND’ in Tsukumi City is a unique facility for interacting with dolphins, created by repurposing a cove that was originally a fishing pond run by the city. It is run as part of the ‘Umitamago’ aquarium in Oita City which opened in 2011, allowing visitors to get closer to dolphins in a natural sea environment.
As of April 2025, 12 common bottlenose dolphins are living there, including those born in Tsukumi Dolphin Island and others rescued from fishing nets. The dolphins are trained to perform, and this is believed to enhance their quality of life (QOL) by offering exercise and mental engagement. The dolphins are social, friendly and curious. Why not enjoy directly interacting with these lovely dolphins by feeding them from the marine deck or joining an interactive programme to swim with them?
