For locals or those acquainted with Oita, many of the places in the book may be familiar. However, by looking at them again with fresh eyes, you may discover new aspects and find yourself pleasantly surprised. We compiled this guide hoping to bring you moments of rediscovery and delightful new insights.

One of the charms of Oita, we feel, is that even in well-known tourist spots, the scenery reflects everyday life. The local inhabitants who live and breathe there, shine quietly, with their culture and daily activities becoming a natural extension of this scenery. The light and gentle breeze felt only on that day and at that moment, along with the conversations exchanged with locals or fellow visitors, forge, and build upon, a deeper and more meaningful connection between visitors and Oita.

AUTOPOLIS INTERNATIONAL RACING COURSE / Hita City

The Autopolis International Racing Course, located in the mountains of Kamitsuemachi, Hita City, is the only racing track in Kyushu that meets the strict standards of the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The main track is 4,674 m in length with a 52 m difference in elevation, and features an undulating layout with a combination of technical curves and long straights. It hosts races in Japan’s top categories such as SUPER GT and SUPER FORMULA, and is a place where visitors can enjoy watching powerful racing up close.

Visitors can also enjoy the chance to drive their own car or motorbike on the professional–spec track. In addition, the Lakeside Course, a short track designed for drifting and gymkhana (racing to achieve the fastest time possible), also hosts schools and practice sessions for beginners. The ‘Courseside Lodge’ also offers convenient accommodation for early morning race participants and those traveling from afar. The high–altitude location keeps temperatures relatively cool even in summer, and the fresh air and natural landscape create an ideal setting for enjoying motorsport.
