AMAGASE ONSEN / Hita City
The Amagase Onsen, stretching along the Kusugawa River in Hita City, is a hot–spring resort with a history that dates back more than 1,300 years, as recorded in the Nara period’s Bungo Province Fudoki (topography). During the Edo period, the area flourished as a therapeutic bathing area, attracting many travellers and spa guests. Nowadays, nearby hotels and ryokan inns also offer hot spring baths that overlook the river, creating a unique landscape that emerges from the union of the town, river and hot springs.
Although part of the area was affected by the flooding disaster of 2020, local residents are in the midst of restoring it, making this hot spring resort an ideal place to express your support for the restoration cause. Not far from the resort is Sakura Falls, a waterfall of approximately 25 m, which can be enjoyed throughout all seasons.
