秋の味覚として名高い梨は、シャリッとした特徴的な食感と、甘さとみずみずしさを兼ね備えた果物として多くの人に愛されています。
大分県は梨の名産地として知られており、なかでも日田市や由布市では、朝晩の寒暖差が大きい盆地特有の気候条件に恵まれ、梨の栽培が盛んです。
「新高(にいたか)」「豊水(ほうすい)」「あきづき」などを代表に、多彩な品種の梨が8〜12月にかけて販売されています。旬の時期には直売所や収穫体験ができる農園も多く、旅の途中で立ち寄る楽しみになっています。9月下旬〜10月にかけて販売される「新高」は手のひらを超えるほどの大玉が特徴で、甘みも強く人気の品種です。両手に余るほどの大きさを誇る大分産の梨を、ぜひ一度手に取って味わってみてください。

Pears are a popular autumn treat, loved by many for their unique crispy texture, sweetness and juiciness.
Oita Prefecture is known as a famous pear–growing region, with Hita and Yufu City in particular being blessed with the unique climatic conditions of a basin with significant temperature differences between morning and evening, fostering conditions where pear farming flourishes.
A wide range of pear varieties, including Niitaka, Hosui and Akizuki, are available from August to December. In season, many farms offer roadside stands and pick–your–own activities, which can be a fun stop during your trip. Among these, the Niitaka pear, which is sold from late September to October, is a popular variety, known for its large over–palm–sized fruit that is very sweet. If you have the chance, be sure to pick up one of these Oita pears, which are so large they can barely be held with both hands, and taste it for yourself.
