One of the charms of Oita, we feel, is that even in well-known tourist spots, the scenery reflects everyday life. Located at the tip of the Kunisaki Peninsula, is Nagasakibana, a cape facing the Suonada Sea. In spring, some 27 million canola flowers bloom, while in summer, around 1.6 million sunflowers flourish, creating a yellow floral blanket all over the area. The surrounding area is maintained as the Nagasakibana Resort Campsite, where you can enjoy the sea breeze and sunsets while getting into the spirit of camping. In summer, they also offer activities such as swimming and barbecuing, making it perfect for families.

Another highlight are the caves that have been formed by weathering and water erosion over a long period of time. The largest of these, the ‘Gyoja Doketsu Cave’, is believed to have served as a site for practitioners, and possesses a somewhat mysterious atmosphere. Moreover, the Kunisaki Peninsula, including Nagasakibana, is recognised for the numerous contemporary artworks that have been installed since the launch of the Kunisaki Peninsula Art Festival in 2014.
