KOKONOE “DREAM” SUSPENSION BRIDGE / Kokonoe Town
Kokonoe Town is a town rich in nature, located at the foot of the Kujyu mountain range, which is often referred to as the ‘Roof of Kyushu’ due to its high–altitude mountains. The ‘Kokonoe “Dream” Suspension Bridge’ is a favoured spot for visitors wanting to experience the seasonal landscape up close. Standing at an altitude of 777 m, measuring 390 m in length and 173 m in height, it is Japan’s tallest suspension bridge exclusively for pedestrians.
Below the bridge, the Shindo Falls, recognised as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls, and Kyusuikei, famous for its lush greenery and autumnal foliage, offer visitors a breathtaking view. One of the many appealing features of this area is the distinct visual changes each season brings: vibrant greens in spring, colourful foliage in autumn, and picturesque snow–covered landscapes in winter.
Nearby, visitors can fully enjoy nature at various interesting places, such as the Ramsar Convention registered Tadehara Marsh, and the hiker–favoured Makinoto Mountain Path in the Kujyu mountain range.
