YUFUIN ONSEN / Yufu City

Yufuin Onsen is located in the Yufuin Basin, almost in the centre of Oita Prefecture, and is a very popular hot spring resort alongside Beppu. The water quality is soft and causes minimal skin irritation, making it suitable for everyone, including foreign visitors. Upon arriving at JR Yufuin Station, you will be amazed by the overwhelming presence of Mount Yufudake, towering over the street in front of the station. At a height of 1,583 m, Mount Yufudake is characterised by its gently sloping twin peaks, and is commonly referred to as ‘Bungo Fuji’. The town’s landscape is picturesque with its changing appearance throughout the seasons painting the town’s landscape like a living artwork.

Yufuin is also known as the ‘Town of Morning Mist’. Gazing at the misty Mount Yufudake from the observatory, as well as relishing the peaceful moments of soaking in hot springs in the fresh air, offers a soothing escape for both body and soul.

In the town centre, trendy cafés and art museums attract many tourists from near and far. On the other hand, moving a little further from the town centre, the quiet streets and narrow alleys welcome you with hot–spring hotels that are thoughtfully designed and furnished. This allows you to still discover the nostalgic scenery of Yufuin even today.
