豊後森機関庫公園 （玖珠町）
玖珠町にあるJR久大本線・豊後森駅は、かつて機関車の運用や整備、乗務員の管理などを行う鉄道の重要拠点でした。石炭や水などの補給基地でもあり、険しい水分峠を越えるための交換地点としても、大きな役割を担っていました。
駅に隣接する「豊後森機関庫公園」には、現在も扇形の機関庫や転車台が残されており、当時の面影を静かに伝えています。このような扇形機関庫は九州各地にありましたが、現存するのはここだけです。園内には、蒸気機関車「29612号」が展示されています。1919年から55年間にわたって旅客・貨物輸送に活躍し、1945年に長崎へ原爆が投下された際には、被災者を乗せて走ったという歴史もあります。
すぐそばには「豊後森機関庫ミュージアム」もあり、鉄道の資料展示のほか、子ども向けのプラバン体験などもあり、幅広い世代が楽しめる施設となっています。

Bungo Mori Station on the JR Kyudai Line in Kusu Town was once a key hub for locomotive operation and maintenance, and crew management. It also served as a supply depot for coal and water, playing a major role as an access point for crossing the steep Mizuwake mountain path.
In the Bungo Mori Roundhouse situated next to the station, the fan–shaped locomotive depot and turntable still remain, evoking the atmosphere of those bygone days. These fan–shaped locomotive depots were common throughout Kyushu, but this is the only one that remains. Steam locomotive No. 29612 is on display at the site, having served in passenger and freight transport for 55 years since 1919. It was also utilised to carry the victims of the atomic bomb blast in Nagasaki in 1945.
The Bungo Mori Roundhouse Museum nearby, not only showcases railway document exhibitions, but also offers a craft course for children, making it somewhere that appeals to visitors of all ages.
